DSG TRANSMISSION MODELS

There are several DSG models available on the market. You can select one of the models below to read more about the services and products Andre's Gearbox, Diff & Service Centre offers or specific common problems and fault codes.

DQ200 - The DQ200 DSG is the first and only 7-speed DSG with a double dry clutch. These gearboxes are known to have a lot of issues, especially compared to his predecessor, the DQ250.

DQ250 - The DQ250 gearbox is the first dual-clutch transmission introduced by Volkswagen AG. It is characterised as strong and reliable but has hardly been modified since its introduction in 2003. Therefore it has various common issues which we could solve.

DQ380 - The DQ380 (0DE) is a new smaller variant of the DQ500 (0BH) specially designed for the Chinese market. The DQ381 (0GC) is a further development on the DQ380 and comes in several new vehicles where previous models were equipped with the DQ250 or DQ500.

DQ381  - The DQ380 (0DE) is a new smaller variant of the DQ500 (0BH) specially designed for the Chinese market. The DQ381 (0GC) is a further development on the DQ380 and comes in several new vehicles where previous models were equipped with the DQ250 or DQ500.

DQ400 - The DQ400 (0DD) transmission is specifically designed for hybrid vehicles like the VW Golf GTE and Audi A3 E-Tron requirements. On the other hand, the VW Jetta Hybrid introduced in 2013 is still equipped with a DQ200 variant (0CG).

DQ500 - The DQ500 transmission is a 7-speed transverse-mounted gearbox introduced by Volkswagen AG for larger and high torque output vehicles that is in large-scale series production.

DL382 - The DL382 is a completely redesigned 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox compared to its predecessor (DL501). Several variants of the DL382 transmission have been available on the market since 2015.

DL501 - The DL501 (0B5) is a 7-speed oil-cooled dual-clutch gearbox mounted in a longitudinal direction developed by Audi AG. Nevertheless, this DSG knows a lot of issues, especially the early produced ones between 2009 and 2013.

COMMON DSG PROBLEMS

If you are experiencing any of the following issues with your driving and shifting behaviour, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment for a comprehensive Andre's Gearbox, Diff & Service Centre diagnostic. These problems can often be resolved by Andre's Gearbox, Diff & Service Centre with software, or they may indicate hardware-related issues:

  1. The "D" mode shifts too quickly or early to the next gear and downshifts too late.
  2. The "S" mode is overly aggressive, resulting in late upshifting and early downshifting.
  3. The DSG transmission downshifts when accelerating ("kick down") despite the driver wanting to remain in the same gear.
  4. The DSG transmission randomly skips gears.
  5. The DSG transmission only utilises even or odd gears.
  6. The DSG transmission fails to upshift to the highest gear.
  7. The DSG transmission does not upshift automatically but only in manual ("M") mode.
  8. The DSG transmission shifts to an illogical gear at random.
  9. The DSG transmission pops out of gear during driving.
  10. The DSG transmission sporadically switches to neutral, interrupting the drive.
  11. The DSG transmission fails to engage reverse ("R") or move backwards.
  12. The DSG transmission moves or crawls in the neutral ("N") position.
  13. The DSG transmission does not move or crawl smoothly in "D" mode.
  14. The DSG transmission fails to move or crawl in "D" mode automatically.
  15. The rev-counter does not increase smoothly but in increments during constant acceleration.
  16. The rev-counter abruptly increases during or immediately after upshifting.
  17. The rev-counter abruptly increases during acceleration.
  18. The rev-counter fluctuates during drive-off.
  19. The rev-counter fluctuates while driving at a constant speed (cruising).
  20. The DSG clutch appears to be slipping.
  • If you are familiar with any of the unpleasant noises listed below, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment for a comprehensive DSG diagnosis at Andre's Gearbox, Diff & Service Centre . This diagnosis requires expertise and experience in identifying uncommon sounds and determining their causes:
  1. Rattling, ticking, and/or scratching noises from the DSG transmission.
  2. Uncommon noises from the DSG transmission during upshifting.
  3. Uncommon noises from the DSG transmission during downshifting.
  4. Uncommon noises from the DSG transmission during braking, just before the vehicle comes to a stop.
  5. Uncommon noises from the DSG transmission during full load.
  6. Uncommon noises from the DSG transmission during cornering.
  7. Uncommon noises from the DSG transmission in higher gears.
  8. Uncommon noises from the DSG transmission when engaging reverse ("R") or drive ("D").
  9. Scratching noises from the DSG transmission when engaging reverse ("R") or drive ("D").
  10. Scratching noises from the DSG gearbox when the vehicle is stationary.
  11. Ticking noises when upshifting to 5th gear.
  12. Rattling noises when starting and/or turning off the engine.
  13. Rattling noises from the DSG transmission during idling.
  14. Scraping (bearing) noises from the DSG transmission.
  15. Resonances from the DSG transmission while driving in higher gears.

If you are experiencing any of the issues mentioned, it is strongly advised to have a thorough DSG diagnosis performed by Andre's Gearbox, Diff & Service Centre.
