Here is a list of some of the most common and reoccurring DSG faults that we see at CCM. This is not an extensive list and each car may display these faults in slightly different ways.
Bad Gear Selection, Stuck in Gear or No Gear Selection
The gear selection in your DSG is problematic, with early upshifts and slow or laggy downshifts.
You are unable to engage the highest gear in the DSG transmission.
The DSG gear selection becomes stuck in 5th gear.
The gearbox randomly shifts into neutral.
The engine RPM increases significantly during acceleration, but the speed does not correspondingly increase.
The drive does not increase smoothly, resulting in an uneven driving experience.
The DSG transmission does not perform smoothly in slow traffic situations.
The DSG gearbox fails to engage reverse or drive backwards.
Automatic shifting is not functioning, and manual shifting must be used to move to higher gears.
The DSG transmission only selects either even or odd gears.
In Car Error Messages
Your DSG transmission is communicating with you by displaying the indicator 'PRNDS.'
A warning message appears on the dashboard with 'PRNDS' blinking.
An orange spanner symbol illuminates as a DSG warning on the dashboard.
A gear wheel or cog symbol appears as a warning indicator on the dashboard.
A dashboard warning message is displayed, followed by a reduction in power delivery.
After a warning message on the dashboard, only even or odd-numbered gears are functional.
Vibrations and Knocking Sensations
A sudden jolt or surge is felt during an upshift in the DSG transmission.
A sudden jolt or surge occurs during a downshift in the DSG transmission.
A jolt or surge is experienced as you come to a stop but before the vehicle fully halts.
Inconsistent smoothness is felt during gear selection when accelerating or decelerating.
Vibrations are noticeable during an upshift, particularly when transitioning from an odd-numbered gear to an even-numbered gear.
Jolts are felt when selecting the first gear.
Jolts are experienced when engaging the reverse gear.
Jolts are noticeable when releasing the accelerator pedal.
Jolts are felt through the steering wheel.
Worrying Noises
The DSG gearbox produces an unusual noise during an upshift.
An unusual noise is heard from the DSG gearbox during a downshift.
The DSG gearbox emits an unusual noise during braking.
An unusual noise is present in high gears of the DSG gearbox.
The DSG gearbox generates an unusual noise during cornering.
Rattling noises are heard from the DSG gearbox during cold starts.
Rattling noises occur when pulling away with the DSG gearbox.
Scraping or grinding noises are noticeable when the engine is running and the vehicle is stationary.
Scraping or grinding noises originate from the DSG gearbox when pulling away.
